The iPod works, the WiFi works, all that stuff works. The bad is it doesn't work with all EDGE data plans: Unlock that iPhone? $45 Says You CanSoftware unlocks for iPhone hit the market yesterday, and after doing a little research and a little emailing, we ponied up for one from freeit4less.com. They told us it might not arrive until later in the week ... and so far it hasn't arrived ... so we can't actually endorse the place just yet. But they do have the lowest price going - $45 - and very responsive customer service via email, for whatever that's worth. Stay tuned ... Wireless iPods in San Francisco Today? With all geeky eyes locked on San Francisco, CA for this morning's Apple media event, the tech rumor mill has been in overdrive for the past week or so wondering What Will Steve Do (Next)? Event invitations and media leaks all point towards music-related product announcements, and Jobs' own comments at an Apple Town Hall meeting a few months ago foreshadowed a new iPod running the OS X operating system. There's also plenty of speculation regarding the iTunes Store - Will The Beatles' catalog finally make its debut? Will Apple begin selling ringtones and/or direct-to-iPhone songs? Jobs at All Things Digital: iPhone to Have 3G?Obviously iPhone's going to have 3G data capabilities at some point. But Steve Jobs, in conversation with WSJ's Walt Mossberg at D2007 today, said a few things that have folks wondering if the Rev A iPhone could, in fact, pack HSDPA compatibility and not just EDGE data as has so far been advertised. The webcast will follow the announcement of this new product at the D: All Things Digital conference in Carlsbad, Calif." Is the LG Prada Verizon's iPhone Killer? Doubtful
Al Gore Rocks THREE 30" Cinema DisplaysWow. All I have to do to upgrade from my 13" MacBook/19" Generic LCD setup is become a former VP of the USA? No, seriously, Mr. Gore's love of all things Apple is well documented, and I personally grew to like him a whole lot more after watching Inconvenient Truth. And his home office setup rocks ... or is it scary? ... you decide: http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1622338_1363003,00.html $99 Linux Box "Easy to Use as a Mac"?Brian Lam over at Gizmodo got a hands-on preview of Amazon's new Under $100 Computer. As he put it, "I got time with the Zonbu, a $99 Linux PC that is amazingly as simple to use as a Mac." The bring your own keyboard, monitor, and mouse (a la Mac mini) machine comes pre-installed with a bunch of open source software and uses Amazon's S3 network storage service for everything, caching data to the included 4GB Compact Flash card. Lam's assessment after a few days with Zonbu? "This machine syncs, swaps, and backs up your data automatically, over the wire. I love it." Responsible Blogging or Responsible Reading? What of the iPhone Hoax Market Cap Dip?If you're here reading this, you probably already know about the "iPhone Delayed Until October" email hoax that rattled Apple Fanboys and investors a bit yesterday. In case you hadn't heard, the short version of the story is that Engadget posted what they thought was an internal Apple email informing employees of the delay (and accompanying push-back of OS X 10.5 "Leopard" from October to January '08). |
