I hit MacWorld 2008 with my friend Doug and we brought our video camera along. We never saw Randy Newman (or the Keynote) but we did meet some online celebrities, dance in a sound booth, and find out why we're not chic enough for female-centric laptop bags.

The good is the iPhone is unlocked and works for voice calls on other GSM networks. The iPod works, the WiFi works, all that stuff works. The bad is it doesn't work with all EDGE data plans:

Software unlocks for iPhone hit the market yesterday, and after doing a little research and a little emailing, we ponied up for one from freeit4less.com. They told us it might not arrive until later in the week ... and so far it hasn't arrived ... so we can't actually endorse the place just yet.

But they do have the lowest price going - $45 - and very responsive customer service via email, for whatever that's worth. Stay tuned ...

Yeah, yeah, *everything* cell phone is being compared to iPhone. And it'll be like that. For awhile.

According to Palm's Press Release:

"Jeff Hawkins, founder of Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM), will host a live video webcast on Wed., May 30, to describe a new category of mobile device. The webcast will follow the announcement of this new product at the D: All Things Digital conference in Carlsbad, Calif."

A few days ago, USA Today ran a story detailing Apple's five-year iPhone exclusivity agreement with AT&T. Part of the deal is that Apple is forbidden to work on a CDMA variant of their cell phone during that time - in other words, no iPhone for Sprint or Verizon until 2012 (or Apple and AT&T have a bitter break-up, whichever comes first).
